Flying into the Urewera

There is always a great opportunity to be involved in a fly-in hunting trip, the Urewera is a prize example. Graham has made many trips into the Whakatane headwaters using the Lakelands helicopter to ferry us in and out. This trip included a six point rusa stag, a one hundred and forty pound boar, eight point red stag and a rusa hind shot in the last hour of the five day trip. It was one of many similar trips with the Rotorua Deerstalkers group and involved about eight teams of three being ferried in and out in one coordinated operation to keep costs down to $165.oo per person.

A nice boar caught by Alec McIver's dogs.

One of Graham's favourite winter hunting places is the Urewera and by far his preferred means of transport is the helicopter.
